Common Houseplants in aqarium, the list!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I come with a little progress update:

I currently have in the tanks...

- Anthurium, actually are amazing, never expected them to adapt so well to being water bound with their roots, they grow very fast and develop roots really quick as well compared to other plants.

- Epipremnum (few varieties), booms

- Philodendron (few varieties), Micans Brasil and Micans Scandens still growing on humidity, not thriving, but surviving. Added another philodendron as well but I forgot the name.. That guy has been on water for about a month now and has been growing.

- Platycerium, grows amazingly well on the humidity, i just have it rooted onto the back of the canopy.

- Maranta, only recently added it (about a month at most) but they seem to develop healthy roots and grow some new foliage already

- Aglaonema, the white variant i have in there is still thriving.. Only tried one other variety that rotted fairly quick, have yet to try others.

- Calathae, mine don't seem to develop their roots as well as Esoxlucius, they grow new foliage but half rots, half develops. Not sure what's going on there.

- Monstera, booms

- Aglaomorpha, added this fern about 3 months back, got it rooted on the back of the canopy as well and right now i'm starting to notice some new growth. It was a fairly large plant when i added it though and i destroyed about 90% of the roots trying to get the soil out. I guess it tooks it's time with rooting again before starting to get back to growing.

I've had good luck growing pothos with just the roots in the tank and the leaves above water. Grows fast, helps with nitrates, and my fish leave the roots alone.

Update on Dieiffenbachia, the length of the tank is 6 ft, the plant covers abot 5 ft of the surface

The stems below the waters surface are robust, the cichlids in the shot are alll about 6 to 8" ( 18 to 20 cms).

Some of the mangrove trees in the sump are over 4 ft tall (122 cms), growing above the water surface.

Lately I have added Hydrocotl (penny wort) midway in the length of the 6 ft planted sump, roots hanging slightly below the surface
