He i recently acquired 38gallon flat hex tank and wanted to keep something cool in there while fishing I always see common musk turtles everywhere I think they look really cute and beautiful so I went online and found out it was legal to collect them for personal use were I live so I wanted to set up my tank to the turtle and also to some fish, the tank is fully cycled has a sand bottom and has driftwood in there. I heard I didn't need a basking spot but to have one just it case and I was wondering if its a must? Also can I have like a care sheet for these guys and some fish I can keep with him? Thanks in advance!!

Mine bask all the time, and I see wild ones all the time basking. As to fish, they will go after anyone in the tank

Heavily is not the same as fully aquatic, Musks are commonly found on land and are known to travel from one seasonal body of water to the next. Also almost all living organisms need Vit D in some form, be it via UBB, diet, etc

All turtles need UVA and UVB . Don't let anyone tell you any different. My RES went almost yellow because of the lack of UVB. Put the UVB bulb in and he is almost back to a dark green.

I hate to tell you this but that tank doesn't have a very good foot print for a turtle. It's too tall. Musk are bottom walkers and prefer lots of floor space to crawl around on and explore. You'd be better off with a 40 gallon breeder.

As for fish....my pair lives with a Paratilapia polleni and they get a long just fine.
