I have just bought a tank second hand with fish, it came with 1 clown loach, 1 gourami and a common pleco. The girlfriend has since added 5 rainbow fish and 4 angel fish. Since these fish have been added the pleco has lost it's colour in patches. What could be causing this? I have read that it could be stress from the move or from adding new fish but im unsure and if this is the case how long could it take for him to recover?

Fish often lose color from stress. If you are overstocked, the water parameters could be stressing the plec, although they are a fairly hardy fish.

could be stress. has it got any places to hide? they also can just change colour, depending on there conditions (ie colour of substrate, water conditions, amount of light its getting etc) got a pic?

Also, how big is the tank? I really hope it is bigger than 75.

my psychic powers of newb evaluation tell me it's 55 gallons....

maybe instead of guessing should wait for an answer, instead of jumping to conclusions (stick to that even if you end up being right lol). i would think a 75 could last all those fish a damn long time, depending on which species of pleco it is, and what the dimensions of the tank are. what is it bagstar.
and welcome to MFK, nice to see some UKers here, where you from?

Im from Southampton. Anyway the tank is 155 litres which is to small I think but like I said I got the tank second hand and the fish came with it, the pleco is not a fish that I wish to keep but at present im unable to find someone to take him off me. He is only about 6inches long at the moment so may be ok for a little while longer in this tank. I will try and get some pics of him but would rather not at the moment as it may stress him out further. I will look into giving him somewhere to hide by moving a few rocks around.

This is the same type that I have.

Davo... I was cracking a joke....

that rounds down to 40 gallons, just about. I think you're overstocked. return the pleco, clown loac, and 2 of the angels.

I can't return the Pleco as the shops near me don't want it and I bought the tank private from the local paper. Any idea's what to do with the Pleco now? To be honest this is far from how I wanted my tank but unfortunatly this is the way it has turned. My girlfriend was told by the shop she went to that there was no problem putting Angel fish in with what we had and Rainbows would be ok as well. Personally I want a tank with lots of smaller fish in rather than a tank with a few bigger fish.
