Last time my fish were doing this they ended up with ick.. I just did a 75% water change and added Salt. I have over a grand in fish in this tank i would like to save them.. Tank tamp is 79. I see nothing on them at all.. They all just are some Shrimp. Help would be nice. thanks

sometimes my fish do it randomly too..
no cause what so ever!
if you are concerned about ick
invest in a UV sterilizer

Just checked Nitrate. It's High for my taste, Possible cause?

Hit it with another 20%.. Hopefully i'll be straight. The fish look good. For now....

What kind of dechlor do you use? Before I switched to Amquel and just recently Prime, I noticed that my fish would occasionaly itch themselves after water changes. If your not using Prime, I would suggest at least trying it. If you are using Prime, then maybe it is the way you add dechlor to the tank, or something completely unrelated (as was suggested, it could be your nitrates) Hope this helped at least a little bit!

I have never used Prime or any other kinds of chemicals to change my water. And i've never had a single issue? I guess anything is possible?

What scares me a little is we had a "Boil Water Advisery" in affect early last week. For about half a day our water had a brown tint to it. But i waited well past the warning?

When i used weco's dechlor for my waterchanges alll my mascara barbs would scratch but not constantly. I switched to Prime after waterchanges and like another poster said it solved my promblem. At least try Prime you can get a small bottle for around $5. Scratching it not always a sign of Ick.

You say you don't use dechlorinator, and your city recently had a boil water advisory. It is possible that your city increased their chlorine concentration as a precaution, and this is the reason your fish are showing distress.

If your city treats the water with chlorine/chloramine, you should be using a dechlorinator with every water change. There's no reason not to. A lot of fish can probably survive water changes with chlorinated water, but that doesn't mean that it's not doing long-term damage.
