Common Snapping Turtles

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i've had several in the past for short periods of time. they were all released back into lakes and ponds. they are definately cool turtles.

I am watching my uncle's right now but I can't really say much because he doesnt even eat yet. He is so young he doesnt have to eat. He is pretty cool though. Not overly active but starting to come see me at the glass from time to time

I had one for a couple of years. They make interesting yet somewhat "still" pets. On the plus side all you need is a big tub, a heat, and a power filter and your set.

i had a couple over the years always let them go cool turtles but nothing i wanna waste a tank on

i just shipped my 6" common to jed(the trust)

i sell alligator snapper and commons when they come to season

i have a 4" common, hes about 1.5 yrs old now. very cool. i only feed pellets.

Can these guys go w/o heaters? Right now it gets to the low 50's over here, and i was thinking about buying one. The guy tells me that they don't need heaters, and the petstore told me they'd die without a heater n uv light. Can somebody tell me what's up?

I kept a baby that I found in a dirt pile by my house. I released him into the Pond i live by though.

i keep mine as if it is a basking turtle (actually it is in with basking turtles but thats on another thread) and i keep the water in mid 70s, no lower than 70. they can hibernate, but unless you are going to breed that isnt necessary. there should be a basking area provided and that should include UVB, but they dont use basking areas much and you would have to get a response from someone with a bigger one to know for sure how needed the UVB is, im actually going to start looking into it soon so i can plan a bigger enclosure for mine before its needed yesterday.
