messy no doubt, but i agree with the others who love their oscars. they're what made me get into fish keeping. i love mine and they have a good amount of personality if u ask me. well worth the constant water changes and vaccuming gravel.

Sure oscars are messy eaters and create a large bio load but so do most large fish.There will always be room for an oscar in my tank.

Oscars are pretty color fully fish, they have lots of personality, and there nice fish. I get my 2 O'S to eat shrimp out of my hands and there only 2'' each! And believe me I love to give them clean water. It makes them grow faster!

I don't see why there is any Oscar bashing going on. They're a perfect fish for someone starting with cichlids. They're easily the fish with the most personality, they grow incredibly fast, and they're a good looking fish. If you have a 55 gallon tank or bigger...get one.

i agree with ure addons to his quote apart from the fact that.. oscars are crap machines and they make a terrible mess of eating, they eat like pics and next time u feed ures (if u have one) watch all the food that comes out of his gilles now apart from that. yes you should clean the gravel weekly, well atleast i do and think u should. if u get an oscar and are worried about the waste food from his gilles then just get a couple of pictus cats but make sure they are not smallenough to fit in his mouth and get a baby oscar aswell.

It's a matter of personal preference. Just because you think other cichlids are 'cooler' doesn't mean everyone does, that's just your opinion. Oscars are my own personal preference but I don't go to a Jaguar thread and tell those people that Oscars are 'cooler'.

ocars are messy because when they are actually eating food they caugh it all over and little peices go everywhere.

oscars are crap machines because of their appetite. i own one and the highlight of my morning is feeding my oscar. because it is fun to feed therefore u give it more food then it poops a lot.

oscars are great if yo have tank space get one. that is is. they are really not any more work than other cichlids their size.
