I would go with 20 or so tetras and lots of plants and a couple catfish for cleaning purposes.

catfish for cleaning? Thats like getting a sloth for racing. Just dont overfeed and there is nothing to clean ;)

i beileve he means like cories and stuff... still you need to clean THEIR crap up.

the best bottom cleaning fish is the rare python or gravel vac which u can use once a week and clean the water up. :D

Not all barbs work. ESPECIALLY tinfoil barbs. Giant danios are fast, and zebra danios are cool. Neon or cardinal tetras are small, so you could go for a whole bunch of 'em.

My 55g is a big community too. Plants didn't work out for me, so i'm switching to sand soon. My stock list-

2 Mollies
1 Snowball plec
3 SAEs
3 CLs
1 Elephantnose
1 Male Betta
2 Fem Bettas
8 Albino Zebra Danios
4 Harl Rasboras
1 Lemon Tetra
1 Violet Goby

Maybe go with some fancy Goldfish, they would look good swimming together in a 55. They also grow large enough to appreciate from a distance.

Stock of my 55G:

5 Zebra Danios
4 Penguins
6 Assorted Cories
3 Yo-Yo Loaches
3 Golden Killies
4 Platies
2 Glass Ghost Catfish
2 Kuhli Loaches
1 Random Pleco
3 Kissing Gouramis
1 Skunk Loach
1 Red Tailed Shark
2 Severums
2 Angelfish (maybe 3?)
1 SAE

Works out great! Severums will Bust.

You could do a cool SA community, with rams and angelfish (I think that would work) maybe some pictus catfish also. Planted would look great also. If possible, try and convince her to forget about the sissy fish and get a big cichlid.

thats funny because i have already tried to do that but she wants pretty fish not those ugly fish eating fish that tear up your tank. thanks for your post
