Hello everyone. As some of you may know ive been dealing with a lot of aggreasion with my 40g mbuna tank. Im wondering if anyone has a generic community stocking list i could look into if i can somehow trade off my cichlids. I do have a smaller planted tank that my shrimp and plants are taking over. I was thinking about growing out some more plants from the 10g to the 40g. I usually just did neon tetras and rasboras and a dwarf gourami or two. Any input is appreciated. Planted or not id love suggestions so i have a picture in my head of how the fish would look in the tank. Thank you all!

Schools of danios or rasborras on top. Tetras in the middle and Cory cats on bottom

Avoid any fish that gets bigger than 6 inches, larger schools of smaller fish look really cool
Never neglect your water changes in a tank that size
What is your current filtration system

40G is easy to maintain for fish or planted tank.
*I would go with heavy planted and a large shoal of Neon (refer Cardinal Neon "Paracheirodon axelrodi" rather then common one that mass selling in LFS)

You could also do a barb/asian tank. I had a beautiful tank filled with Odessa, Roseline, and some other barbs. The Roselines would be a little too big but Odessa, Panda, Tiger, and maybe some Garra would be really cool.

I'd love to set up a tank for a few dwarf gourami.

I like the idea of schoolers, but I'd add some dwarf cichlids for personality and interest. Rams, Apistos, Checkerboards, etc. They all love plants.

Then you could do a group of marbled hatchetfish on top. They're pretty small.

I would personally love a group of chocolate gouramis. They'd be great for a planted tank but they can be a bit harder to keep.
