has anybody ever had success keeping protopterus lungs with other fish for more than a few months? or is that a stupid question?:nilly:

I've tried with a few individuals that seemed slower and less aggressive than others. Never worked for long. My annectens is a perpetual night killer. The aethiopicus actively hunts any time it senses something in the water. My dolloi pounces on anything that swims near its head.

The only lungs I've successfully kept in comm arrangements have been my AUL and Lepidosiren paradoxa.

yeah, the annectens can be just as likely to randomly destroy objects, but it does vary with the individual. if the fish is 10" long it can definitely bear to go on a feeding schedule of once every other day, or even a two-day fast in between feedings. i would go with a feeding every other day with a fish at that size, although if you want it to get pretty big pretty fast, continue with the every day schedule, just be sure to keep up with water changes as lungfishes pollute the water quite fast.--

korrrekkkt! he CAN pollute the water a lot! i do 50% wc 1 to 3 times a week depending on how dirty the water is. He's 11.5 now, btw. thanks solomon. :)

pet store i go to has a 2 footer with a redtail and an oscar. he just sits there all day in his tube. not really meant for a 55 gal but no choice, the previous owner was gonna try and cook or landfill it if the place didnt take it.

I had a 15 inch annectens I think. He lived in my community tank. Lots of fish in there. Only thing he killed were a needle nose gar (didn't eat anyways), chomped on a silver dollar and probably ate a baby peacock bass. He wasn't bad. It was a risky move. It would of been cool but he died :(

Jox.... I am curious why yours died. That is very rare...

From what my brother researched it was tuberculosis or something that huamns get also. I dont think so but basically his noodles started decaying
and rotting abd he just stopped eating. He would of been great living with other fish. HE was a one in a million.
