thats weird, my pearl gourami is the chillest out of all the fish in my tank lol

gourami's IMO are like cichlids in a way, meaning they have different personalities unlike some other fish, which I consider "Dumb Fish". Dumb fish just want to eat and poop, while fish like gourami's can actually have individual personalities, making some killers and some sweethearts.

my pearl gourami started out really friendly, but then got extremely territorial. He even picks on a jack dempsey twice his size.

Gourami can be funny fish. some can be friendly (most are) but sometimes you can get a mean one.

In your sized tank and with tetras I'd look into dwarf gouramis. They top out at around 3 inches and would be perfect for your tank.

i tried adding a betta with a bunch of gourami's once. They did okay at first, but I woke up the next morning to find the betta mostly dead, and the gouramis still attacking it.

its hard to say all of a certain fish are peaceful. most could be, but you get a few with a wild hair every once in a while

With male betas, as long as your other fish don't have long flowing fins and tails as they do, or all other fish are female of a differenet species (like guppy females) or fast moving like the danios', then you usually are fine. Anything that resembles themselves or bigger, they take as another male and try to fight it.
