I am thinking of doing a community planted tank and i was wondering what would be some good fish to put in there and which ones I should stay away from? Any info would be very helpful. :headbang2

stay away from arapiamas unless u have a jiant aquarium and dont even think about aligator gars lol these are pretty obvious BUT i bet ud rather be safe than sorry. what size tank ?? u should get a c02 injector they work wonders for the plants and be sure to have proper lighting.

Depends largely on the size you will get, and what fish you are hoping for. One or two display fish, with a cleanup crew? Check into discus with otos, cory cats, amano shrimp. Schooling fish? If you have 75+ gallons, a large school of cardinal, lemon, or rummynose tetras (like 80 or 100), with similar cleanup would be stunning.

More info is really needed.

I'm a fan of discus in the planted tank, but there are a number of option. Among them are cardinals, rummynose, broken bar tetras, angels, ottos, small cories, harlequin rasboras, etc.

How big is your tank and how elaborate are you going to get with the plants, also what size range of fish do you want and do you care if they are mixed from different areas of the world?

just buy like five or six of all the tetra species u can find if the tank is 75 gals. or more. them buy a bunch of cories and then get a few angelfish

If you are going with a tetra tank 75g, try at least a dozen each of maybe six or seven kinds so that they will shoal nicely. Maybe cardinals, rummy nose, lemons, glowlights, head+taillights, pristella, and serpae, then throw in 6-7 marbled hatchets.
Your angels will sometimes snack on very small tetras once they get big.
When you get your corys remember that if you shop around you can find some that are a little out of the ordinary. Some will also form schools that cruise the bottom in little squadrons, pygmy pandas do that so get 6-7 of them instead of a couple plain bronze or albinos. Here are pics of some of the species I like, with the pygmies you could also get 7-8 assorted others.

I am thinking of doing a 26 gallon bowfront. I have a large driftwood center piece and was thinking of putting an amazon sword, some ferns, and some other plants. I hope that is not to much to put in the tank?

In a 26 gallon, I would do either:

South American Biotope
2 rams
5 cories
10-20 tetras (maybe two species)

Or:

Southeast Asian biotope
5-7 sparkling gouramis (no more than two males--if you choose another dwarf species, keep a pair)
5-10 harlequin rasboras
5-10 kuhli loaches

Never to many plants.
