Okay, I don't want to repeat others stuff on here but I couldn't find anything on the Search. Basically I have a 220g predator community tank and a 80g African cichlid comm tank... but I don't feel like I have a monster at all... the fahaka is fairly big but not really a monster.
So I have be plagued with thoughts of getting rid of everything and getting a single monster for the 220g. But then I think I would get bored quickly and want to go back to a comm again... argh! It makes my brain hurt.

In essence my question is, is a single monster worth it? And if so what would be good in a 7x2x2 footer.

This is still hypothetical at the moment but just curious about some ideas.. thanks.

I think the Fahaka fits all that criteria though, it's not doing it for you anymore?

Yeah I love her... but had her a while now and have this stupid desire to try something new and BIG!

Your call. You watch it daily and do all the maintenence. :) I have had a sudden interest in Bala sharks and a semi aggressive community lately myself. Probably wont do it, but been watching a lot of Youtube stuff on them.

I got fancy goldfish, and a pair of Jags growing out. NO MORE.

Not sure you will find a better fit than you have now, the joys of a wet pet without the empty space around it. 24" isn't enough for some of the really fun stuff.

Thats a big enough tank for a wide variety of awesome predators. I would try a school of geryi piranhas that are super rare but the coolest schooling piranhas out there. Or a peacock bass tank. Or a dorado tank. Those are my choices for a 220gal and all will be ok in there for a long time.

no 24" wide tank is big enough for a full grown pbass or a dorado lol...
it can be a grow out sure but not life term.

^^Yeah I figured that... 2ft wide really isn't that big for a monster tank. It would need to be a whole life tank as well as I have no plans to upgrade any time soon.

Having posted this I kind of am beginning to appreciate my tank on a whole new level.. and how cool it is. That and I feel kind of like a cheated on my fahaka even posting this lol... the only tempting thing Is getting a single male Dovii.

But is a single dovii worth it?

not wide enough full grown for a 24" width but they make great wet pets/solo fish
and can be housed in that tank for a good amount of time if you get one small. or
if you like wolves you can try a hoplias mala or hoplias micro which are the two
smallest hoplias species. if not maybe some amphilophus like a trimac pair or
amarillio, midas and what not. there are options just gotta do your research
