Community vs a single monster

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Right I think I will be sticking with the comm tank as the monster fish I want are just to big for my set up... so the fahaka and friends will be staying. Thanks for the input... hopefully that will put my mind to rest from these crazy ideas.

Don't know what to do?
Get bored quickly?
Have you ever think about having a break from hobby?
If you want to shut down everything then do it for few weeks, or months and if you don't have the urge to setup a new tank again then you're done with it. Enjoy your break, go out and find something new to enjoy lol. When you have enough fun outside and get bore (Don't you see a pattern here?), you will come back and get more excite feeling to setup your tank again and most likely you would have a mind set what you really want to keep for long term. if you can't decide and keep wanting to change thing around then it's your own problem and nobody have a cure for you :P

Personally, I tried the single monster route and got bored quickly; but there's lots of people on here that love it. I'm inclined to say community or aggressive community is best, there's no substitute in my book for communal interaction etc; unless you have a glass banger that entertains you.

i had a community tank convict jack dempsey x 2 and green terror x 3. bought another green terror and ended up giving away 1 x green terror and the rest leaving 1 x male green terorr 1x female green terror 1x new green terror.

since then i moved the single male green terror to another tank as there was agro. Now all is working well. they breed awesome. I think i was getting bored of my mixed tank and seem to be alot happier with single species tank BUT i think getting proper wild caught fish make a diffrence

Dude, what you need is a bigger tank. Get a 450 gallon from Midwest Customs.

I own both a community 310 gallon and they are far from giant predators....the crappie are double the size of the bass but not aggressive preds by any means.
How big are your crappie, they r more interesting when they hit the 15 to 20 inch range (they aren't terribly aggressive tho,but are still fun fish at that size)
