I hope this will assist some in buying preference, or just satisfy their curiosity.
For those that pose the often asked question:
"How fast do silvers grow?"
Or
"How fast do Blacks grow?"
Well I hope to help shed some light on just how much different the growth rates are between the 2. This growth pattern spans just 4 MONTHS TIME! From January 23 until the date this post is made.
So, as well can see the silver will grow MUCH faster than the black. See below for comparison
FIRST THREE PICS: pics were taken in January/February of both my 4-6" silver arowana and 11-12" black arowana around the time I first introduced them all together. The black was bought out-right, and the silvers were from a grow-out tank.
REST-O-THE-PICS: pics taken tonight (May 7, 2007) of my 13-14" silver and 13-14"" black arowana. Notice the difference? (Minus one that is no longer with me
)
(The black background is currently down for canopy cleaning but will be back on soon, hence the abnormal painted-sheetrock background in the pics taken tonight
)
The silver arowana has surpassed the black in size...literally...a growth rate IMMENSELY FASTER than the black arowana, by far.
