Ya that might be the reason then cus im used to having fish live a long time like goldfish and arowanas

Well if you are not into cichlids and want a fish that will live a long time, black sharks Ive heard of them living to be 30 years old, Red Tail black sharks will go 7 years, Im pretty sure tinfoil barbs and bala sharks have long life spans too just not sure exactly how long they are.

most small fish dont live that long right? it would be nice to have some community fishes that i dont have to replace so often
Yes, most small fish actually don't live long but that is no reason stopping you from keeping them. I actually think you are doing a good job keeping them alive for this long. Don't let their lifespan discourage you from keeping them. A few years is not really often something you hear when it comes to small community fish such as tetras and neither is a few years equal to replacing the fish 'often'.

Well like I said, if you have a semi agressive community, red tail sharks have a really good lifespan:) And if you have a big tank, tinfoil barbs and bala sharks have a long lifespan and are completly peaceful:)

a lot of larger tetras like Buenos Aires and things like that can still live 3-5 years, which is still pretty good.

i think bala sharks can live like 10 years or something around there.... cuz it takes near that long just for them to get for grown lolz
