alright, so after a few threads and a lot of searching i might have settled on this idea as a stocking list unless i get pointers as to where i may have problems between fish. so i would like to know about my compatibility between these fish along with anyone who knows enough about these fish to help give me a timeline of what to get and when. as in (get this fish first, when he/they are 'x' inchs then add the ____ fish at 'x' size ... etc until i get all my fish in compfortable (i'm talkign growth rates etc)).

alright with no further adieu here is what i'm thinking:

- silver aro (or maybe a cheaper asian if i decide to spend the money)
- gar (florida or spotted)
- 3x bichirs (2x sens & 1x del or vice versa)
- 1x or 2x pbass (id like some help here too. never considered keeping pbass never seemed to be a huge fan but have really changed my mind the past few days. i know nothing of pbass .. sizes, compatibility .. anything. so suggestions on which pbass would be best for this set up along with their normal sizes etc would be greatly appriciated)

alright let me know.

Thanks mfk'rs.

A silver aro will eat those bichirs. You'll want to look at an ornate or one of the large lower jaw species. Make sure the gars have a head start and it could work in a large enough tank.

so i would be safer taking ornates or endlis or something over sens and dels?

what if the del and sens have a decent head start?like what if i wait .. get a 4" silver when the polys are like 8" +? .. anyways that would make it work is what im looking for. if not then ornate and maybe endli are always an option i guess. other then that you see the set-up working? and what pbass would be best? .. keeping in mind for all this im looking at arounddd a 180 gallon

and for the gar? how much of a head start should i give him and over what? like would it work if i put everything else in my tank around same size then waited and added a silver way later? or if it will be very hard to work i might put 2x gars in instead of the silver at all

my senegal is a pretty avid hunter, I had him with a gold fish (that I wanted to keep) and he caught him and just beat the crap out of him. Once him clamped down that was it. The goldfish was easily half his size at the time. I was like "what the hell are you doing, you can't even eat him!"

true, there is a bit of diffrence between a goldfish and the fish i'm planning to keep though. but still .. good to know.

so far seems to be a green light on this stock list other then maybe having the change the type of polys i want or go with 2x gars instead of 1 and an aro

A silver aro will need bigger than a 180. Just make sure the gars aren't tiny when you get the because the aro will outgrow them. I have a 9 month old 22" silver aro with a 10" Florida gar and they get along fine.

just remember that size matters. what also matters is growth rate and potential. you have to consider how big the arowana is and how fast he will grow and you buy your senegal accordingly, and keeping in mind that sengals grow slower. senegals can hold their own. i have mine with a silver and my silver does not bother him. i have a predatory community tank, which is what you're wanting to assemble. every fish that you purchase has to be the right size in order to accomoodate one another, otherwise, you're going to be buying expensive fish food for some of your fish. do not buy all of your fish at one time. buy them at different days but and introduce them carefully to the rest of your fish. also, consider territorial fish. if a fish is known to be territorial, buy it later. i'd purchase all non-territorial fish first. get your arowana early on. they're not very territorial . . . once a territorial fish has established a territory, you will have problems trying to introduce new fish. take your time and think it out. get your tank, set it up and allow it to cycle. then start thinking about introuducing fish.

ya .. the list of what order to add everything in is what i'm looking for. like i said "buy ___ at 'size' then when he hits 'size' get your ____ at 'size' .. i'm assuming someone that knows a fair bit about these fish in perticular will be able to give me a rough idea of what order to get these fish and what sizes to get them to before adding another perticular one .. i'm skeptical about getting the silver first as i am looking to buy most if not all of these fish no bigger then 4 or 5" and watch each of them grow. not as much thinking about getting one that is already 10" .. unless its the only way to make it work is to buy one or two of the fish at a larger size already. (i'm also doing this $$ wise .. to save myself to finances in the long run). but so far if added in the tank properly no one can for see any major issues between any two of these fish? .. and as i said i might just go with 2x gars instead of gar and silver yet.

you can buy the bichirs at the largest size, since they grow slower and won't reach a size that allows them to dominate the tank. keep in mind that smaller arowan can be picked on. that's why i said to buy him first. i have oscars with my silver. oscars are cichlids and can be territorial. fortunately, i bought my oscars later. my arowana was already established in the tank.
