Guys I have a 150 gal 6ft tank with an adult metae and juvies (3inch or so) hrp, pearsei, and v.heterospilus. the metae is beating up the pearsei pretty bad.

I was wondering if I replace the metae with a juvie bicourti would that work long term ? Or is the tank too small ?

Other inhabitants are green phantom pleco, spotted raph and group of rainbow fish as dithers

My bocourti have played nice with most other fish I've added, just like pearsei they get very large, this group went from @ 2" to about 8" in 1.5 years.

I had some bocourti and pearsei years ago that easily hit 14" in 3 years, and needed to be moved from my 150 gal, to larger quarters.

Duanes so say aggression isnt an issue the 150 gal would be too small for both?

My experience with (several) bocourti is that they are pretty feisty and at times nasty. I currently have a 6" male in a 210 and he is always nipping and chasing a smaller bifa (5") and similarly-sized female hartwegi. It challenges a 7" Chuco microphthalmus, but the contests are a draw. The only fish that consistently put it in his place was a smaller male salvini, but I had to rehome it because the bocourti freaked under the stress. My guess is that a bocourti would be able to stand up to a metae once it reached an adequate size (but then the bocourti may be your problem fish!). They are definitely more aggressive than pearsei.

Any suggestions of would could work ? Something uncommon ca

It hard to say when it comes to compatibility issues with cichlids. I've found that Nics are no pushovers but not overly aggressive either. Something like a Parachromis loisellei might be good - fair sized but not overly aggressive. I really like P. synspilum (melanurus) as well. Or if you want something less common, Amphilophus lyonsi are not very aggressive (at least interspecifically) and they look impressive as they mature.

I've kept bocourti with a number of species, but I must admit, I never keep those of the same genus (or those that look similar) together.
Although my intermedia are very similar in color, their body shape, and especially mouth shape seems to suggest a none competitive feeding strategy.
And to me keeping none competitors is all important, it does not however always work in every tanks individual hierarchy.

What about herichtys deppi not much out there on them could they work.
