Compatibility Question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i agree that a red tail shark wouldnt really clear out an algea problem, they nibble here and there but its not their main goal i guess you would say. SAE are hard to find but ive seen flying foxes often in petsupermakets here though. I dont recommend chinese algea eaters, ive seen them do horrors to angels.

I've heard stories that RTBS and SAE/flying foxes won't get along. I personally haven't seen this but just wondering if anyone can back this up?

K, sweet thanks for clearing that up

Well thank you for all your responces. The shark will be the last fish o enter the tnk. This way all the other ones can get usd to their home first. I'm going to be addinhg some corydoras as a bottom lurking fish. Since the shark doesn't help algae, I might just need to go with one of the pleco's mentioned here or a bristlenose. I will still keep my eye open for the SAE thought.

the red tail will do good with angels provided u put only one in ur tank!!;):)

1 shark or 1 angel? I know these sharks don't like each other, but the people here told me to have atleast 2 angels.

From what I understand, these sharks don't like anything black. Well I owned one before with a Black moore and it never left the BM alone. (this was a long time ago when I was young, I now know that this should never be done)

Just a side note, I never saw my RTBS eat anything but algae off the tank, he never eat pellets, or wafers, or anything else I feed, yet he was big and fat. Dang now I am sad my guy was so awesome I loved him.

Make sure that you are getting an SAE and not a Chinese algae eater, they like to attack the slime coats of other fish. I would not recommend them for a tank with any fish that have nice broad sides for feeding on (for example angel fish). Sometimes I have seen CAE mislabeled as SAE's so be careful. Also my SAE's don't eat any algae besides the green hair algae, though that is fine by me.
