Hi I picked up a fish labelled v.melanurus I believe it is a paratheraps melanurus. I currently have it in with a school of silver dollars and 3 neoarius graeffei catfish. The paratheraps is showing a little aggression to the catfish but it's not to bad. Would you believe they are compatible with each other? The catfish are almost a 30cm long (the larger two, the smaller one is about 20cm). I believe the paratheraps is around 16-18cm long

They should be. I wouldn't expect p. melanurus to be an overly aggressive cichlid. They aren't killers like some other cichlids. Mine was a little more aggressive when younger, but now he is the biggest fish in the tank, but the least aggressive.

They seem to be ok together so far. The p. Melanurus has shown slightly some signs of aggression mostly when the catfish circle around him.
Im also not 100% sure if it is p.melanurus I believe it was incorrectly labelled . He's been in the tank about 9hours now

oh alright thats, i guess being moved to a new tank would of stressed it had a feeling it was p.melanurus,
any tips to sex if its a male or female?

pH is around 7.2, temp is around 25 degrees celcius, ammonia 0, nitrite 0 and cant remember nitrate but did a water change yesterday. Only tank mates are the 3 salmontail catfish, 2 gold spot plecos and the school of silver dollars. These were his colours at the store i believe he may of just arrived there a day or two prior

That all sounds good unless your nitrates are high. If this fish is new then he/she just needs to get settled in. How long have had him/her?

Only had them for almost 24hours. Was told on another site it looks like a hybrid. Do you agree?
