This summer I want to buy a large monster tank, 125 or more. I want as many different monsters as I can fit. Huge things like larger shovelnose and so one are not out of the picture as I am considering macking a custum tank. just tell me what you would do (no $3,000 awos, but true tiger shovelnose are very much wanted) So arowanas, red tail cats, shovelnosesspiny eels, any assortmant of monsters you would think is compatible. (please, even though I am a huge fan of FW rays, there is no way I can keep them, and no pacus)

well mudskipper, I would hold off on the huge monster fish idea until you do make a huge custom tank, or get one made.

If you're getting a 125 this summer, stick to fish that don't grow much over a foot.

In all likelihood, something like a TSN or RTC would outgrow the 125 by far, before you get a chance to make a huge tank.

it's easier said than done, building a monster tank, or having the cash to get a huge one built.

yeah i have a 125 as my biggest and it sucks becouse i cant get any real monster fish. im already overstocked with what i got (in my signature). i need at least a 240 for a FEW monsters. ie peacock bass, redtail cat, arowanas, gars, rays.... good luck. but seriously if you want some real monsters get a bigger tank. :)

get a tank in the 240 gal and up range

for a 125 you could still have a really cool tank. A few nice active bichirs, like senegalus, delhezi and palmas. And a few redtail barracudas. They are brilliant, and very pretty fish that stay around the 8/10 inches range.

But seriously - forget about big monster fish like the ones you suggested. You realize silver aros get 3 or 4 foot, TSN's and RTC's even bigger. You need a mammoth tank or indoor pond to house those 2 catfish.

You could get a spiny eel though ;)

red tailed barracuda? I take it thats a type of false gar. I have kept the FW barracuda (aka the rocket gar before)I prefere needlenoses (not long noses)

no it's not a type of false gar, it's a characin. Rocket gars are hujetas, which are also characins.

however - the real freshwater cudas are what I'm talking about - cachorros. Scientific name acestrorhynchus.

They are awesome. Pretty, shiny, big teeth, red tails. They are the fastest fish I've owned too, the way they nail feeders is incredible.

Don't forget some clown loaches to clean up...
