I have a 7x2x2 aquarium currently with an Oscar, a jaguar cichlid, a syno catfish and a gibbicep

The oscar is about 8-9"
Jaguar 8-9"
Syno 6"
and the gibbicep is about 7" but I'm thinking of returning him

I had a texas cichlid that was about 5" but he died in the night just before I had freed up a tank to segregate him til he was big enough to defend himself :| seemed to be from stress as he took a turn for the worse when the Jaguar was added, even though there wasn't actually any conflict nor any signs of it

Anyhow, anyone suggest any tankmates for my fish? They get along pretty well, the Jag even lets the oscar sleep on top of him!

The stock available to me at the moment are;
A. Rivulatus
Vieja Synspilum
Vieja Zonatus
Cichlasoma Uropthalmus
Herichthys Cyanoguttatus
Parachromis Friedrichstalii (probably not a good idea?)
or perhaps another Oscar?

So yea, any suggestions on these as possible tankmates, or any other for that matter! However it seems to be more difficult to get certain fish here in the UK

Worth noting that I have the facilities to grow out the fish and/or separate them if needs be

Thanks

I'd think adding one more fish into an established tank with larger fish like yours is asking for trouble. IMO you'd be better to add at least another 2-3 similar sized fish along with rearranging the landscape to break up any established territories, and maybe even removing the jag and oscar while the newbies settle in. I think the hardest part will be finding appropriately sized individuals to introduce, and striking a balance like you have now.

I would think if the jag killed your texas it would go after either vieja. Maybe another Oscar if you think youd really like more fish.

I vote synspilium awsome looking fish can hold there own but usuaully don't start the problems.

Would adding more than one be the best option? How many fish could I have in the tank? I preferably would prefer not to have an overstocked tank, I currently change 50% of the water every five days or so.
If it was up to me I'd leave it as it is but the tank is in our lounge and the girlfriend, after much protesting over getting the tank and fish in the first place, insists on adding another fish or possibly two (She also isn't into the idea of overcrowding where possible)

The tank is decorated with wood and fake plants and plenty of hiding places for fish to avoid each other

I'm aware of the difficulty of adding any fish at this point.

What would be an ideal tankmate be? provided I could get one, in no rush to get one but also aware that my fish are still rapidly growing themselves.

Really a pair of neets . You need small fish. And convicts are boring. Neets will hold their own, but you need better hiding overall. Well sight line breaks that is. Male jags can claim a 125 by them self sometimes.

Would they not upset the balance of the tank? Everything I've read about them suggests they're horrendously aggressive, is this right? And yea, I find convicts a bit boring too, but I'd probably still end up liking them nonetheless :D
Never seen those neets in the Manchester UK area either :S

Besides that, I've tried to provide cover in the tank through decor, would you say it needs more tall plants in the foreground to break up lines of sight at the front of the tank, or just a change up alround? The decor cost an arm and a leg overall lol
