An Oscar alone could reach a foot. The other fish 10-12". Three of them in a 75 gallon tank would be a nightmare to maintain!

Oscars alone produce an enormous amount of biological waste. Not to mention they are a South American cichlid that thrives in a softer water. Central American thrive in harder water. I can guarantee that if you mixed them together the Oscar would pit out somewhere down the road.

Look at a seventy five gallon tank as being an excellent grow out tank, or for a single pet fish, or maybe a tank for a isngle pair of breeders. If you are going to use it for a smaller species like Neets, Nicks or any one of the Archocentrus family you could put in more fish.

Ditch the JD. They are a waste of space and will kill all your fish.

Ive heard of 1 oscar and 1 gt working in a 75 and 1 jd and 1 gt but I dont know about all 3 any one of those could decide 48x18 is how much territory he needs to himself depends on the individual fish

would these fish be able to live in a 75 for life together.
3-firemouth
1-oscar
1-JD
1-green terror

if so could i add more or is that the limit.

that is the limit, it might work if you get them young. none of those are to the point of out right killers on average the might bicker but it should get dispersed among all occupants. the dempsey if male has the most potential to do damage or the oscar if it gets to be more then 7 inches bigger then the firemouths yet if they pr. off they pose the greatest threat. you figure if the don't breed the firemouths will get 5-7 inches. so give them hidding spots to defend. an oscar about 12-14 inches should be ok. but if you get them all about an inch they should grow up with an already established pecking order.

Bottom line...it's a 75 gallon of water. Three large cichlids will not thrive (notice I didn't say survive) in that container.

I'm done. Good luck with whatever you do.

you're right they will probaly not thrive. but honestly long before internet we all had to learn trial & error.juvies will be ok to start true he should be prepared to seperate or move to a larger at least 150 gal. tank but let him learn what works for him & his fish.
put it that way convicts don't thrive in tanks because they start breeding before they get 4 inches so growth slows or stops. yet they can get 6inches for males 5 for females if kept seperate & don't breed,or given a very large tank ie. 180 & just the pr. or 2. there are a lot of fish that only survive in tanks not thrive. wild convicts breed & still get to be 5-6 inches;that's thriving.

ok well i guess that the fish i want is not going to work. so what would you guys recommend. i really like oscar and JD. would these be able to thrive together. and if so what other fish could i have. i would like to have more than 2 fish in a 75gallon tank
