Large shells are great for breeding these guys. They take to them pretty well.

yeah hpefully thats how they will stay, they are only about 2 in. max

i've put large shells in with them but mine have seemed to prefer the flowerpots over shells. But i too have seen pairs do well with large shells.

No I wasn't thinking of keeping them together.
For breeding both should I be looking at pairing them or just group breeding ? how well do they tolorate there own kind ?

i can tell you if you keep a pair in a 29g they should do well for you and produce many offspring, I am currently keeping 9 black calvus together with some v. moori's in a 75g and they have little spats but noone has been injured. however i have not had offspring from this group yet as they average about 2 in. a piece. Although they should be coming soon.
