Just have to ask this question since i cannot find an answer.. Everytime i have to log off or shut down my pc, i have to click log off or shut down numerous times to get it to actually continue the process.. Is it just because they're are alot of programs on.. symantic, yahoo messenger and verizon music jukebox,my "all in one printer"And Hp digital Monitor.. that could be causing it to be sooooo slow.. or is there something else going on? I have windows xp.. thanks in advance.. ,

try shuting down symantic before you shutdown your pc.Id almost be willing to bet that symantic is hanging your system up.Also right click on the task bar click on task manager go to the processes tab and see what/if anything is useing alot of resources.but i woul say yahoo or symantic is the problem

Let us know if that takes care of it

It helped alot that i turned off symantec but i also notice alot of stuff that probably could come off of pc.. kind of afraid to mess with it that deeply..but definitly think i should go over it with someone who has knowledge.. netherwords get the useless grid out of pc.,, almost like starting over haha, but at least i know turning the symantec off when i need to will erase some valuable time..especially when you need to do it fast. thanks again .. Liz

try to use msconfig and disable all running programs in the background.

it will help speed up your computer and will also help in shutting it down since there a no programs in the background to turn off before shutting the computer down

Grab yourself a great little program called registry mechanic. While you're at it, download another program that's called spybot. They'll improve the performance of your computer dramatically.

Another 512mb of ram will help too :)

exactly what i was going say bits of files left from deletes ect cause havic on your system

well thank you Josh and fishnutham.. i will try this.. because i do believe you end up with alot of bits and pieces of files.. and defragmenting and compacting can only squeeze them away so much.. thanks again
