Hey guys, I copied and pasted a few folders of pics on my friends computer to his external drive.

Then when we clicked them to open on the drive, or his desktop, they say it cant open them, it says something is wrong with the shortcut.

I'm thinking of doing a system restore to yesterday.

What sucks is we never opened them first, they may have already had an issue.

Wondering if they didn't configure correctly in the move, it should be so simple though, why would it corrupt the file on the desktop?

Any ideas?

It really shouldn't have corrupted the original file. If you are seeing a shortcut instead of a file though, the shortcut looks for the original file to open it from there. Like if I make a shortcut on my desktop of a picture in my documents. If I delete the picture from my documents or if you move the file from the location it was in when you made the shortcut, the shortcut won't work anymore - same if you rename the file. First you have to get the original file working, then you should copy the file as a complete file, not a shortcut, to the external drive for backup.

Well, on mine at home it seemed easy as pie to do all this I dont know why his is being o stubborn.

I see what your saying, all my folders say shortcuts but they open to the pics at one click, so his shortcuts are separated from his actual file somehow.

I tried to find the files but where else would they be other than under pics?

By the way I did the system restore anyways just for a couple days back, it kept saying unsuccessful so I did it in safe mode and it worked, however the problem still remains with the pic folders.

I think they were this way before I messed with it, I hope so, so how else can I find the files?
