Since this is a internet based fish site, I would assume some of you in SoCal might be having some trouble with your computers, naturally. Windows is an operating system which in all actuality has many holes for viruses and is not user friendly at all. When I had windows it seemed like I was always having to fix something and run scans and talk to an anti-virus as much as enjoying the computer.

Until the day I found Linux,

Imagine being able to BROWSE THE WEB, visit and download from your favorite DOWNLOAD SITES, share files and click links of un-trusted sites SAFELY. Linux uses less resources than Windows so no matter what computer you have, If it can run windows it will run linux much faster. Not one virus know to man and it has been running since the 80's (updated since then of course!). You can even play most games designed for Windows using a program known as WINE. For the everyday casual user, Linux is FOOLPROOF. For the more Experienced user it can free up a lot of headache and stop the complex hassles you may get yourself into.

For $50 (depending on location vs gas) I will come to your house, get the computer running for you. EVEN IF YOUR COMPUTER SEEMS DMAGED BEYOND REPAIR FROM VIRUSES. I will reformat your hard drive and install a fresh system on your computer. It will run like the day you bought it.

eww linux lol haha

GL bro.

Once I buy a new desktop, I'm going to convert my old PC to a Unix based system. Then I will have PC races to see which is faster. Buster PC with Unix/Linux or new PC with Win7. I'll never get away from Windows 100% as I have a work computer and the wife is stubborn when it comes to updating to new technology.

The Reality
If you are going to trade files in a Windows world, you'll need to scan those files for viruses. You won't get infected, but you may help infect someone else. There are two ways to do this:

Run all the files through a server which checks for you. GMail, Yahoo mail, and Hotmail all have wonderful checking software.
Check the files for viruses yourself.
You can install a program called ClamAV. Install the package. It won't appear in the menu. Run it by getting to a command-line and type in "clamscan -h" to get some help on how to run it. If you really need to use a gui front-end and don't like the command-line then just install "clamtk". See the AntiVirus page for other antivirus packages and more detailed instructions.

Even if you do not trades files with the Windows world it is worth staying reasonably well up-to-date with normal updating procedures. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/InstallingSoftware#Automatic updates: Update Manager

IS THIS WHAT YOU MEANT? I'm not running Ubuntu but if i was i wouldnt keep an antivirus that scans for Windows viruses like ClamAV. So iI can help people who are trendy to be more safe? I don't care if a virus gets passed to another person indirectly because realistically if they have Windows they probably already have 100's of viruses. I'm sure there are viruses that have been created probably to target a certain person that ubuntu or mint hasnt patched in there system but to catch something like this would be like me in 2011 catching the black plague or leprosy, not feasible or likely. While on Windows you have Cold, Flu, AIDS, Cancer, etc etc to the millionth power running rampant.

we have Linux on our desktop for about 3 years now never had a problem with freezing viruses nothing in my opinion its amazing my laptop has windows its ok but constantly getting updates and having to put anti virus on it just last week I told my wife I was thinking about putting linux on my laptop and I see your post its too bad youre in Cali $50 seems like a hell of a deal just my two cents
