What colour should con eggs be if they are fertile? My female just laid some within the last hour or so on the inside of a coffee cup, I shone the flashlight on it and it looked like the eggs were all white which I thought meant they were infertile. Is this true? Does the male have yet to fertilize them ? I was really excited to see the eggs at any rate since my other egg layers have eggs that are not visible to the naked eye lol. Thanks !

White is fungus, if it is likw white white. But white as in clear is not fert yet. Brown is fully fertalized. Good job on the eggs. I am always SO happy when any of my babies have eggs!

You should be able to tell after 24 hours if the eggs are good or bad, but since its only been 1 hour, they'd still be whit. However, by now you should be able to tell.

There is one egg that is much whiter than the rest and sort of fuzzy, I assume it is fungal growth on it. The rest are a creamy colour with tinges of brown, I think they are good but hard to tell since the cup is black and there is not much light. I can't wait to see con parenting behavior!

If you want a maximum hatch rate, use small tweezers to remove the white eggs. Dead eggs with fungus promote dead eggs around them.

Got my first batch last night, they are brown now so they are fully fertilized. I reckon there would be at least 150 :D

i think i answerd this in your pm. aww well for the public i will post again.

if there all white they have fungus and you need to wait again. if there brown there almost ready to hatch and if there kinda pinkish then there fertile and have some time in tell they hatch again.

Well as an update, we moved our cons from a 15 gal to a 20 gal that had become available along with the coffee mug the eggs were in. I released the female first so she could get comfy and not have the male harass her incase they forgot who each other was :p. The female swam around a bit and quickly found her eggs and took guard again. She kept trying to get the male out of the bag he was in, swimming to him, flaring, and trying to lure him into her cave, it was kinda cute. She was clearly the boss now, tended to the eggs pretty much solo, barely let the male near them. Came back after a few hours to check the eggs and all I saw was these clear imprints of them in the cup, the fungal egg and 3 or 4 actual eggs. I thought the parents had eaten the fry but then noticed them guarding a particular sea shell. I moved it and underneath were hundreds of tiny writhing eggs with tails lol. The mother is moving them around the tank and the male is ensuring that my hands dont get near them, although the net they still fear!

We dont plan on raising many if any of these fry, so now the question is, when are con fry good to use as feeders? I will be giving them to bolivian rams, swordtails, guppies, neon tetras and rosy barbs :)>
