Lately my poor Convict [male - 3"] has been getting a real beating by my GT [unsure - 4"] All the GT does is chase him around and around my 55 gallon. At first I thought nothing of it, but the GT has been relentless and scars and tears have been showing up all over the Con's body and fins. All water parameters are fine, and filtering the tank is 2 AC20's and a Rena XP2. Water changes are 25% once a week. Their other tankmates are 3 1.5" Clownloaches and a 4" Rainbow shark. Suprisingly though, the GT couldn't care less about them, just the Con.

So I don't know what to do. I've put a divider in, and nothing. I really don't want to get rid of either, but I don't want to put the Con through hell. Is it possible for me to add another small SA/CA Cichlid, like a Firemouth? I was hoping that if I did this, the GT would spread the aggression around more equally. Any suggestions?

I just added some more hiding spots, and it seems he's gotten more scars from trying to hide under them in such a hurry..

I agree with adding more hiding spots. Also make sure you have the tank decorated in a way that they can claim clear line territories.

What exactly do you mean by this?

Use plants, wood, rocks ect. to separate areas of the tank. It creates natural boundary/territory lines.

I am having the same issues with my con and gt, both male, in a 120. Having more hiding spots and territories will help a great deal, at least the frequency of "hits", but they will still run into each other now and then.

I might be taking my con to the LFS today for some credit or trade.

Wow, whats up with all these killer gt's? My gt is pretty much near the bottom of the food chain in my tank. When he is not being chased or beat up by my black shark, my red zebra and jag are trying to take bites out of him.
