I have a very nice normal con and my lfs just got some pink cons in so I was wondering if I got a male and bred them would any cool patterns come of it
or would the brood just be a 50/50 of normal and pink

It would be 50 pink 50 normal, sorry man good idea though

any other fish I could try to get some hybrid or cool pattern
the same female con paired with a firemouth that I used to have but all the fry got eaten by tank mates be for I got to see what they looked like

It's a pretty controversial thing to hybridize cichlids. Personally I wouldn't breed your Convict with anything. Just keep it a convict.

i currently have a pink con x regular con pair
the babies will be all striped...........
BUT if you breed the babies back to the father you get a marble (beautiful in my opinion)

yea I realy like the marble and calico and I was told on another forum that there might be like 2 in every batch that are marble or calico
but your saying that if I inbreed them that I will get marble
what if they had some other deformities?
also wouldnt the con/pink pair's brood come out like pink with faded stripes?

No, the striped gene is dominant. Look up genetics and read up on dominant and recessive genes. In humans the colors blend because we have at least 8 genes that contribute to skin color, con coloring is not that complex I'm guessing. New patterns will be the results of mutations which happen by chance. I bred a pink male with a striped female and now I have hundreds of fish that are striped. If you breed the heterozygous fish back together you will get 25% pink. Note the definitions of genotype and phenotype.

No more hybrids please. Lfs here is selling Convicts x Septemfasciatus as regular Cons:irked:

Not sure how to breed for marble/calico convicts, best way to go is get some to start out with. At least that's what I did:D

Asuming the striped parent is carrying the recessive gene for golden ( leucistic) which most striped cons usually are:).

IF the striped parent is homozygous for striped coloration then ALL offspring will be striped But ALL will CARRY the recessive gene for leucoticism, as long as one of the parents are 'golden'. Meaning that the next generation will produce 'golden', unless again it is mated to a homzygous striped, producing ALL heterozygous for striped coloration.

Cons, for the most part follow simple Mendellion genetics; though of course ,many genes control coloration, one way or another, and enough breeding betwen striped and golden COULD conceivably produce a "calico"' convict ( marbled).
