"Confessions Of A MiniFishKeeper"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The lure of the tiny tank... Most people who see a well kept one think to themselves "its beautiful. I can do that. and It can't be too hard to do'." I've seen that mentality suck more people into this hobby than any other factor. The fear factors of the monster tanks.... I want them but where the heck am I going to put it? the tiny tank syndrome is a trap! First the kitchen counter or nightstand and next thing you know they're hooked and bigger tanks start popping up everywhere. LOL Gets them every time.;)

I highly doubt the vast majority of the MFK members started off with mega tanks and gargantuan species. On that note, I greatly suspect that many members are keeping beautiful little secrets!
So here is your chance to confess and come clean without any threat of punishment.

Show us the little things you've been hiding!

The rules are simple!
1. Your picture of your tank or bowl.
2. 10 Gallons or less!
3. One line stating the size.

That's it! Nothing more.
We'll try and figure out what's in there on our own.

I'll start with 3 of my own.

Very true, I found small tanks much harder to keep than large tanks, small variable may have a huge impact on these little systems

For many years I kept bettas. I had them at work and on my kitchen counter. Our lives were altered forever over ten years ago when my husband brought home those yard sale pacu. When the last betta died, that was the end of betta keeping for me. This is the only reminder that I kept bettas for all those years. I just took this picture. The fish bowls are full of agates that need polishing, but the tumbler has been idle for more than ten years. I did not become a real fish keeper until the pacu came home. All those years keeping bettas I knew nothing except that I had to add dechlorinator to our chlorinated water...filters were not even a consideration. I had to learn about water parameters and the nitrogen cycle in a big hurry when we adopted the big fish. After nine years on MFK, I still spend the most time in the set up/filtration section. I believe as fish keepers, that's where it all happens.
