hey again everyone, i have a 20 gallon now (same one i posted in the other thread, about 30 hours filled with water, no problems), and in the near future will be getting a 90 gallon as-well.

the 20 is my first personal tank ive ever had, we had a family tank that was either a 20 or 30 gallon about 7 or more years ago, so i suppose its safe to just consider me "new" anyways.

i already have my 20 gallon, my stand, and i will be making the hood and will get the light fixture soon. I've found the right air pump and air rock thing that i want to use also. Now, im confused about the filtration that i will be needing and where i find it.

What would be the quietest way to do the filtration system on the 20 and for the 90? the 90 will be my main tank and the 20 will be my test-tank and feeder fish tank and they're both going to be in my bedroom.

thanks!

I say you got with a HOB(hand on the back) type filter, they work well and are fairly cheap currently. Depending on what type of fish you plan on keeping will determine how much filtration you will need. There is no such thing as too much filtration unless your talking about a 20' protein skimmer. But keep in mind that the flow rate will adversity affect your fish if they are fighting the current all the time. I would say get a few AquaClear 70's from big Al's, I think they are still on sale so if you get three of them, it would run you around 60 bucks then add some other stuff to your order to get free shipping. I know the AC70 is rated for a 70 gal tank but you can always put it on the lower setting for the 20 gal tank. The filters are nearly silent as long as you have the water level high enough in the tank. And if you order from Big Al's try using the NANOREEF coupon. Not sure if it still works but 10% off isn't a bad thing.

so even if i got something carnivorous in the 90 gallon -like a black piranha (what id like to get if i feel i can keep it after having a tank for a while) that would be alright?

or do i need something a little more?

Howdy,

Get an Eheim 2215. You won't regret it. Clean it once a year, there is nothing that's lower maintenance at highest reliability

so that's all i'll need for the 90g? no pumps or anything else? just that and the air pump?

Eheims are great filters, but a bit pricey. If you go with messy fish like piranha, in my experience the HOB would be a better choice because you could put to mechanical sponges in there and it would be easier to maintain than the canister filter and would also be much faster. The two AC70's on your 90 gal should be great for what you need. I think it's the best value for your money currently unless you want to invest in more high end filtration.

maybe i missed it, but the ac 70 im finding is about $80, so i would need two of those compared to the one $110 eheim?

please correct me if i missed something.

Here's the link for you, the filter doesn't come with the bio-max but you can buy it separately.http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsUS/ctl3684/cp19169/si4408841/cl0/powerfilter70

I would recommend that you get some spare foam inserts for it but just go with the generic ones they sell.
Big Al's Foam Insert-2.0" x 3.5" x 5.25"
Item#: 8360

If you want the bio-max here is the item
Aquaclear BioMax Insert F/300/70
Item#: 66546

If you order it from them don't forget to try using the coupon.
Hope it works for you.

so could i buy one now and another two in say 4-5 months? i saw someone say in the review "get then before they're gone!" so are they out of production or something?
