I would like to know peoples thoughts on the agression of the texas cichlid. I looked them up on fishbase and it says harmless there but they had them as aggresive at the lfs. What do you guys think? I have never dealt with them.

Texas Cichlids are pretty mean. I've kept them with red devils, managuenses, oscars, etc and they held thier own pretty well as long as every one was similar in size.

To each cichlid has it's own personality. It's all depending on it's surroundings. If you have them with other fish that are going to fight over territories, they will probably be aggressive. My LFS has a Texas that someone traded in that was housed with a Jag and I guess the Jag dominated the 110 gallon tank they were kept in. So who knows.

I always heard they were pretty agressive, but I guess compared to what is the question.

The fishbase lists them as harmess because they don't hurt people, turkey fish are listed as venomous, bullsharks as traumatogenic, so are piranha.

Exactly, that's what the harmless is all about on fishbase. It's in regards to people not fish.

But um, I had a texas cichlid and it got owned by my channa, they are not that mean. It didn't even try and fight back.

Texas Cichlids can and will bully smaller less aggressive Cichlids but if they are housed with Cichlids like Trimacs and Midas then the Texas is usually looking for a good place to hide.

Exactly, they can bully most oscars, most jack dempseys, most green terror, most convicts, but texas is hiding for cover w/ house midas/red devils, FH, jaguars.
At least mine was. It wont even come out to eat, bec. it is so scared of the meaner fish.
