"Problems"? What, will they fight or something?
I apologise for being such a noob, the centre actually gave us this plec so we assumed that they would play nicely together and live long into the future!
Yeah what problems? I have a large common in with KOI and a sailfin in with my fancys...

I see them in large pet stores all the time with goldfish.

Also, I had a pleco that I rarely saw. Once every 3 months. It was usually at night if I left the moon light on and watched the tank for while. If I moved or turned the lights on this guy bolted. He was a bushy nosed pleco. Also, When I removed decorations, especially ceramic ones, I had to look for him hiding. Sometimes even gently shaking the decorations didn't work because he was holding on inside.

Plecs can, when they start getting bigger 5-6 inch range, start chasing slow moving goldfish and dominate the tank. They can also sometimes be found to be sucking on the goldfish scales - hard to catch them doing this as they could be doing it at night. Plecs are nocturnal, goldfish are not. So they are trying to sleep the plec hunts and can suddenly develop a taste for their protective slime coat. See how it goes, but watch for ulcers on the fish, scale damage, and chasing.

If it is a common you've got, can easily grow a foot within 2-3 years. Very fast growing. I have a 6 inch one at the moment in my bala shark tank.

I Have 2 Plecos that i had the same Problem with. This is what i did. From some reason I noticed that the plecos (not sure if all) but the ones i have have this thing for being under Rocks or hard surfaces. And also Like being around An Air Stone when i got them at the LFS. I Purchased a Flat Rock at the LFS and an Air stone that is about the same width as the rock. I proped the Rock up at a slant so i can see into it and added the Air stone. About 2 Hours Later Both Plecos were under the Rock Hiding in the mist of the air bubbles.

Might want to try that.

Might Sound Dumb, But i've done this More then once.

Let me know what happens.

Hey guys
I just went to feed the fish and there was the plec!
As soon as he saw me he bolted into the castle and made his way to a dark, quiet spot.

We were so relieved I'd not trapped him under the castle or anything!

As for the previous posts, wow, I didn't realise that they would a) grow that size (he's about 3cm if that at the moment) and b) they would do that to the fish; I'll be sure to keep my eyes open on the fish and if I notice anything will speak to the guy at the centre see what he suggests.

Fingers (fins?) crossed the fish will be OK, they are very active and play loads together so don't think they are 'slow moving' ones :)

Well guys, time for bed for me (and my little fishies), keep checking my album for updated pics of the family!

Plecos also prefer a higher water temperature than the goldfish, but don't heat the water to tropical levels with the goldfish though, makes them more susceptable to disease since they are a coldwater fish.
