So, I have 1 Congo tetra left. I don’t want to get more. I need a replacement. The tank is 55g. It has a delhezi Bichir in it, and only him. What is a replacement for them? The only rule is it needs to Be relatively cheap, and from Africa.

I’d say try another round of Congos. Red eye tetras are another option but haven’t seen available in a while. Plus will have to be large adults due to the large delhezi.

Jewel cichlid or krib cichlid?
African butterfly?
Not really good for dither action but are fun fish in their own right.
The breeding kribs will populate a tank fast giving the bichir food with the parents able to escape.

What about african cichlids from the congo basin? Inexpensive IMO

You are not willing to pay more for the higher end tetras or oddballs?

Bush fish?
I think they need large groups

Ive looked into red-eyes, but no-one has them. I don’t want another round of Congo’s. Ive spent a lot of money on leveling out a group.

Breeding Kribs would be a cool choice. African butterflies are awesome.

I can pay more money for fish, but I just don’t want to spend A ton of money. I love oddballs

Since when do bushfish need large groups? Always have seen them solo in tanks? I think the spotted perch is a nice oddball predator like thats not going to compete against the bichir and is inexpensive last time i saw one at a LFS it was only 15 bucks for an inch big one

I think bush fish are solo or group, doesn’t matter to them.
Arent spotted perch leopard bush fish? What did you mean by the higher end tetras?
Yes I think so. I think he meant some of the rarer more expensive tetras (Congos are expensive though).
How about angel fish?
I think he wanted to keep it African.
