So I'm basically doing a combination wet dry/Submerged sump and have everything figured out except how I'm gonna attach line from overflow to top of sump. I'm using 1" flexible pvc pipe for the drain and not sure what the best way to attach it to top of sump is. I want a top on it to help with splash and noise. I've used mostly glass for the sump but have considered getting an acrylic top.

My initial thought was to drill a hole in whatever I decide to use for a lid and put a 1" bulkhead (slip) so I can just friction fit the 1" flexible into it and remove it whenever I need to. Is this a good idea?

I'm doing exactly this with two 1" flex pvc. I just siliconed mine straight into an elbow that screwed into the bulkhead. As far as noise I just used the scrap piece of plexiglass and placed it over the hole.

Yes what you describe is a good idea and will work. There are also soft rubber hoses you can run if you don't want to go the pvc route. 1" ID is 1" ID. Water doesn't care if it's hard or soft
