I’m not 100% sure, but I’m seriously considering going all in on a nearly 800 gallon tank in my living room that would be plumbed into my house. This is going to be a big project that will involve a number of contractors, but the plan is to do it right.

I was wondering if any of you who have done something on this scale can share your tips and lessons learned.

Also, the aquarium guy I’ve been discussing this with is talking about using a combo of a big wet dry sump and a Fluval canister. That’s pretty much the setup I used to use on a smaller 200 gallon tank. Is it my best option for something of this size?

Will this be in-wall or free standing in your living room? Be nice if you can provide more details in regard to your current planning options.

Filtration:
What sizes sump & canister are you proposing to use? Why the canister? My 750 setup uses a 180gal sock sump (Tsunami RS9624), which I find much easier to maintain that the wet/dry I have in my 450gal. I use an FX6 in the sump of my 450gal, also used one in my old 180gal setup's sump, both wet/dry sumps. I find it helps keep those sumps clean. I don't use a canister in my 750gal setup's sump; I find that sumps stays clean enough, maybe it's the sump's configuration that make a difference.

Plumbing:
What plumbing options do you propose to use? I had my 750gal plumbed so that I just need to turn a valve to empty the tank, turn a different valve to fill the tank. There is also a small float valve pump that I use to conveniently put Safe & buffer solution into the tank when refilling. The tank's plumbing runs down the side of the tank and then down in the corner of the floor. I use plants to hide these.

My new 750 gallon setup thread shows my initial planning and then the setup, but doesn't include the plumbing setup.

Good luck.

Thanks. This would be a freestanding tank that is going to occupy the corner of a pretty big room. Not sure on sump size but 180g seems right. And the plan would be to have it plumbed into the house drain and water lines to create a water change system similar to yours.

Can you say more about this?
