considering discus

I've tried keeping many things with discus (eels, small cichlids, tetra, stingray, chocolate cichlid, uaru, rainbowfish, killifish). They are too iffy and scary. I love them but they can be dumb sometimes the way the scare so easily. Ultimately, you'll end up with just a discus tank so don't bother mixing unless you want to go through all of the changes. I even took the small tetras out because they would let them eat there fry.

Something to consider when selecting tankmates for discus:

1. Make sure these fish are tolerant of the high temperature. Neon tetras for instance will not make good tankmates as these prefer cooler waters. Cardinals are a much better option in this case.

2. Tankmates should not be too boisterous. Too much activity will stress the discus.

3. Tankmates should not be aggressive feeders. Most discus can barely outcompete them, let alone brave the feeding frenzy.

4. Tankmates should not be too dominant.

I have my discus with 2 young motoro rays, as long as your discus aren't too small your teacup ray probably will never see them as a meal. As far as the aro, some say their constant movement stress the discus out, other keep them together just fine.
