:(Hey everyone,

So i was at work last night when i received an urgent txt saying my tourqouis discus decided to go belly up, literally. Remembering what Inland empire discus breeder bill awared me of i instantly thought of constipation. This is a common thing is discus as far as I am aware and the fish either survive it or don't. Well I rushed to the forum and found episom salt as being my fast acting laxative. THANKS FOR ALL THE POSTS ON THAT. I quickly doused my tank and watchned in anticipation. About 3 hours later it passed and his belly reduced and upright status returned!!

So my question is now, I see no dark spots as of yet that could show internal damage. I do however see what looks like a small buldge coming out of what looks to be a rip area. I am thinking the constipation broke a rib? He does have some stretch damage due to the size that his stomach had taken. What is the likelyhood that he/she will continue to live a normal healthy life after this instance? Should i now worry about dousing on a periodic basis to insure that this doesn't happen to him again? Is it one of those cases where it happens once it will happen again? I will be of course monitoring him for a while after this!

I have attached some pictures to illustrate the damage rendered by this unfortunate occurence!!

I've never experienced this, but I've read it is often caused by feeding too much dry food that hydrates in the fish's gut, and expands. If you feed a lot of dry type foods, you may want to soak the food first before feeding. Good luck.

Ya i think that is what did it. granuals to be exact!! It happened litterally between the time i left for work and 8hrs later. just barely feed them when i left!!

So does anyone know if he will survive at the end of this? i know he is not eating this morning. i really didn't expect him to so soon. I hope that he will eat by tomorrow
