So i was at work last night when i received an urgent txt saying my tourqouis discus decided to go belly up, literally. Remembering what Inland empire discus breeder bill awared me of i instantly thought of constipation. This is a common thing is discus as far as I am aware and the fish either survive it or don't. Well I rushed to the forum and found episom salt as being my fast acting laxative. THANKS FOR ALL THE POSTS ON THAT. I quickly doused my tank and watchned in anticipation. About 3 hours later it passed and his belly reduced and upright status returned!!
So my question is now, I see no dark spots as of yet that could show internal damage. I do however see what looks like a small buldge coming out of what looks to be a rip area. I am thinking the constipation broke a rib? He does have some stretch damage due to the size that his stomach had taken. What is the likelyhood that he/she will continue to live a normal healthy life after this instance? Should i now worry about dousing on a periodic basis to insure that this doesn't happen to him again? Is it one of those cases where it happens once it will happen again? I will be of course monitoring him for a while after this!
I have attached some pictures to illustrate the damage rendered by this unfortunate occurence!!
