Construction of my 300L wood pond

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my real problem comes with wraping at least 3 diffrent compartment with one continous piece of liner

sorry i was not clearly thinkin here or clearly not thinkin...even if i do get all the diffrent compartments wrapped i would still need alot of holes to let water run fom 1 compartment to the next:screwy:

anyways i was thinkin of now doing somthing like this where the driptray and mechanical filter "box" would be removable item's

and i'm thimkin of makin the baffle plate that hold the scrubies in place
a seperate item in the filter aswell...

do you guys think this could work?
would my scubies be too dry/wet??

I will be looking to turn the water about 4 times an hour.

o.k so no reply = this would just be another experiment of mine:)

On the liner side...

has anybody tried using the plastic underlay that they use when tiling a house roof as a pond liner??

They garantee a minimum thickness of 250 micron.

Can anybody see why this stuff would not work???

all opinions would be appreciated!!

some update pics...

i batteled with the liner for hours and with the 3rd try i folded it up like a little present an unfold it inside the pond...did the trick just fine...

filled the pond up with water to let the liner settle...

an finnaly nailed down some temporary pieces of wood to keep the liner in place for the water tests...

I hope to get it finished by tommorow...

that looks sweet man :WHOA: , when i was doing my pond, and i was working out my waterfall i got a liner fron when wine is transported from erope to north america its transorted in 2-" containers with a bladder, a huge 10,000gallon bladder, well i got my hands on one and i planed to make the waterfall from it but like yours it was too tough to work with.

I think the liner was 2mm thich, and it was hard to use so i wnded up scrapping is and i spent the 3-400 on the proper 4.5mm liner. and it was worth the extra money...,

your project looks cool i would have put a porthole in the side so you can see through it, but as far as ponds are concerned this size IMO is not worth the efort, but we do what we can with the spave give right?

realy too bad you couldnt go bigger. btw i here that plastic pot scrubbers are good bio media, although my doller store didnt have any im sure you can find some... its a lot better then paying $10 per gallon of bioballs, and its lighter then lavarock...

It looks nice, you can find some waterproof paste you can coat on the inside of the pond instead of a liner. dont know what it's called.

first off... thank you very much for the props guys!

I agree wirh you portabuddy, i was standing there infront of the little thing last night thinkin to myself...wow this was a lotta effort for something so small...i initially thought i'd be able to finish it off in 3 days max:screwy:

what also gets to me is the fact that you need about 1000L of water per Koi fish so this pond of mine seems to me nothing but a gold fish bowl with too much filtration:ROFL:

But ya that does not keep me from learning what the critical parts of a wood pond is...unfortunatley i was limited to the size of the wood that i got for free...I'm glad now i did'nt pay for the wood coz i made alotta mistakes:cry:

i definatley want to build a 5000l one at least...with first grade wood too this time!

I dont know what visqueen is unfortunatley but this stuff they call YPE underlay plastic....its used to make a tile roof waterproof an at R280
(aprox. $28 ) for a roll of 30 meter's(i used about 8 meter, although it
should have been 4 meter) it's the cheapest and strongest thing around!! + its white!!

Bio balls IMO is not worth it at all in a W/D i only use them in my pre-filter for the power head.
I'm a huge fan of the scrubbies probably from peer presure here from MFK !!
i have not managed to track down a supply of scubbies yet...

...but there is this girl i know that is an exellent shopper, she can sniff out any bargain in town:ROFL:

Thanks for your comment and input so far, i will post up the finished product soon...
