I currently have a 20L multie setup. I started out with a proven pair and now have too many to count. I am using a Rena Smartfilter rated for 30g and they are doing great. As far as "stacking" goes, If you start out w/6, you will soon be on your way to an overpopulated tank. So I would not pick up many more than that.
