Convert 36g tall FW to SW

They are in both. But a key beauty in freshwater tanks are living green plants that can take up the nitrate happily whereas there aren't a lot of "pretty" plants to be had in the marine environment. Hence one of the reasons for refugiums where "ugly plants" can exist, to take up the nitrate and be exported.
 
another reason of concern in SW is that the nitrate level has to be so much lower then in FW. i would keep it as low as possible to either but its much less harmful at higher levels in FW then SW. canisters with regular cleaning are fine but that tends to get very time consuming cleaning it 2 even 3 times a week.
