I had been mulling over making a plywood and glass tank when I was reaching for a late night snack in the refrig. Aha! Taking the doors and divider out of a fridge/freezer combo would leave a nice starting point for making a tank.
My only concerns are how much bracing would be required and how to seal a glass panel onto the front of it. I'm thinking it would work best to seal the glass onto where the doors were, then laying it on its side and cutting out the top (what used to be the side) of the fridge for access from the top.
Any holes in the shell of the fridge could be sealed with fiberglass mesh and resin.
It seems like a crazy idea but I like how it would be really cheap and easy relative to building a plywood shell. And there's no need for painting the whole thing with epoxy resin since they're mostly lined with seamless plastic already.
My local dump has 10+ refrigerators sitting outside at any given time during the summer months so I would even get to pick my dimensions to some extent; maybe even my color lol.

I talked to an older guy that bought some stuff from me, and he told me that he use to make tanks out of the mini-frigs when he was a kid. Take the door off and glue a piece of glass to the front. Not sure if that would work for a big frig...chances are, probably not.

Plug it in and you've got an instant chilled tank LOL.

I guess it could work if you wanted to do it, you could actually make anything work. Talk about Ghetto though ..."Dude... get me a beer from the fish tank!"

Or it can keep peeps from taking your beer hehehe
fishkeeper: "If you want a beer you're gonna have to get it yerself"
friend: B"bbbut what if it tries to bite me?"
fishkeeper: "Risk you gotta take, hehehe, Now stay outta my beer!"

Leave it on it's back and you can use the freezer for the sump. :D

Worked for me.

I'm not too worried about the ghetto factor. You should see the 5 foot tall video projector I made out of MDF and cardboard haha.
