Converting from fresh to reef tank!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it was one of the old ones he made
You're right, Bioballs are old school. Protein skimmers are a necessity, IMO.

I don't have an answer to your missing clown but I do want to pass some advice to you.

1st point. I'm not trying to argue just my two sense.

A. You did start your tank very hastily... I would have done the same thing so don't think I'm scolding you lol you just need to realize many people will get upset at the speed people like you and me set up our new tanks. I did a brackish in one day. Nearly killed my violet goby. I still kick myself for that one.

So yes we need to move slower when dealing with the lives of out fish. They deserve it.

B. I like your tank so far. You have done a good job on design and stocking variety.

Here is what I had and it worked for me for three years before I switched to FW. OB Home made filter ran with a power head and used BIO balls. (my dad was the saltwater expert who ran an operation in San Antonio Texas called Ocean Expressions So it was one of the old ones he made. He's a genius) It was rated for 100 Gal. I used it on a 27 Gal.

I never used a protein skimmer. Just a normal heater. Normal Instant Ocean salt. Bobbing style Hydrometer. My stock was tiny. 3 Yellow Tail Blue Damsels. and some Turbo Grazers (recommended) So basically I just got tired of SW but I am going back after college!

I am Glad you chose SW but you need to remember patience is a virtue and to listen to people's advice.

I am in now way bashing you or your tank I am just sharing my blah blah!

Peace out man! Happy Keeping!

thanks man no harm done im always open for advice..but my lfs here was closing down and the guy has been giving me great deals on equipment and was practically giving me fish so...i got them...but i dont plan on adding anything else for a couple of months now he is closed down...
