Basically that's all you would need. i mean some cleaning of your sump and sand here and there won't hurt anything, but you gotta remember you want your sump to be filthy. Protein skimmers are only really neccessary with reefs I've had my 210 with about 7 fish and have never had a protein skimmer and they all look beautiful and healthy. All my levels are perfect. Also I tend to keep my temperature a little higher i keep it at about 80-81 instead of 72-78 just because in my experience fish stay more colorful and more active.

so wait now I'm confused, you do need a skimmer if you want a reef? or you only need a skimmer with fish only?
Also, bioload has a lot more impact than in freshwater. so volume of water is important. My 90 has a 40 breeder as a sump so it has a total water volume of 130 gallons.
Also you gotta top off a lot i top off every 2 days. with a large volume of water salt doesn't fluctuate as much so it gives you a little more lee way.
Corals help keep your water cleaner, and they're also just very beautiful, but corals are hard because you have to give them chemicals, they have to have special lighting a lot of fish eat them they're expensive etc.. If you have the time and money however corals are totally worth it.
I would use a skimmer in my sump because although I plan on starting out with fish only with just a little live rock, I want to keep adding it on a regular basis as I can afford to do so until the tank is full. As I go I want to slowly add corals too as long as my system can handle it. BTW I currently have a 48"x18"x30" undrilled tank and will soon be adding a 48"x4 54W T5ho light setup with planned 10,000K and Actinic bulbs. Will these be ok or should I get different lights if I want to eventually use them for a reef. I also do plan on drilling my tank and adding a sump/fuge before I convert it over. Will I be ok doing this or would I be better off buying a predrilled tank?
