Males are more colorful. Keep the water clean, and raise the temp to 81-82... They are one of the most simple fish to breed.. Bogwood, planters, pipes, anything will help them put their eggs... Let us know..

females are more colorful ive found usually have some orange in them compared to the males which have none

Wowwww this is crazy I have been searching intently for eggs between my 2 regular convicts, but niether showed any signs
I am just trying 2 feed them really well and hope for the best, I put in a flowerpot for them, but no1 was going near it
Then boom I checked the tank abt 20 minutes ago an I saw the little regular male with a pink convict! And probably 50-100 topheavy little frys tottering around in the gravel!!!:headbang2
I fed the a bunch of frozen cyclops and I can't tell if the fry were eating or not
I know it's just convicts but I am really excited, as these are the 1st cichlids I've bred!k:eek:
Any advice on rearing the fry?
Also all the tank mates are being harrassed very badly is there Nything I can do? :screwy:

also wut size shud the fry be if I want 2 feed em 2 my 3" anglefish?

Grow them out until they make a nice meal for your Angels.

You will have fry every few weeks now and the spawns will get larger until they max out at around 400 +/-

also it was a pink and a regular, how soon will I b able to tell if the fry are albino or striped?
Some help please?!

the little male was just a regular, and the pink was well pink LOL :grinno:
So anyway the fry look pretty gray so idk, do u think my lfs would be interested in the fry?

yeah put the fry in a seperate tank and there parents will calm down i did that and now i have about 150 convict fry and thay just had more so i did the same process good luck cause now you will have a S&$T ton of fish

Actually, the fry will be either all black or all pink. Not a mix. The black color is the dominant gene and the fry will be black if it has that gene along with the gene for pink. I know because I mixed a male pink and female black and I have hundreds of black cons now.
