my grow out tank is 3'x2'x2' with a 7 inch african arowana, 5 inch clown knife, 4 inch bichir, i want to breed some convicts to use as feeders. can i get a pair of 1 male and 1 female and breed them in my grow out tank and then move the fry to a 10 gallon? will this work or do i need the convicts in a tank by themselfs?

all i can say is the convicts will attack anything within 30cm once the have fry and they are really not scared of anything so expect some niped fins!!
im ok with the fish getting ripped fins, can i use an open pvc pipe for a cave or should i use a closed one? also do you think they will survive long enough for me to pull them out. my african arowana is like a vacuum sucker, im kinda worried he might suck up the fry.
to be honest the convicts dont need a nest they will literally breed anywhere possible and i really wouldnt worry about your aro eating the fry i would be suprised if it could get anywhere near them they really are that vicious when they have fry, i leave my fry with the parents for a good couple of weeks before i move them the parents will look after them just fine!
Yea my convicts had fry. The started getting to big so I had to take the parents out, and the numbers dropped quick. They take good care of the fry my cons will probably have more soon.
well it wont harm trying,i found when i tried a pot they just wasnt interested in it they just let the fry have free reign of the tank and battered anyone one who came near near! bearing in mind some of my other fish are 4 times the size of the female convict she still always comes out on top everyone knows their place around the convicts!
