I was doing 20% once a week. However once the eggs are there be very careful about how you do it (or dont do it at all). Don't vacuum any gravel just slowly suck the water out from the farthest corner away from the eggs. I've heard stories about fish eating their eggs when they get spooked.

I kept my fry with the parents for almost a month. This might differ though from con to con. I wouldn't remove them to soon as the parents will take pretty good care of them at least for a while. Leave them in for at least 2 weeks would be my advice.

Oh don't forget to put some kind of sock or something over the filter intake. You probably already knew that. :grinno:

Also it they don't have to be the same color, I bred a pink female with a black male. All mine came out black or at least the ones that didn't get sucked through the breeder box and eaten by my blood parrots.

Always gravel vacuum, just be careful. They seem to not get sucked up though no matter how hard I tried. You can also use a fish net or pantyhose (didn't use, not a chick) to guard the filter intake.

I would advise against it. Its only a 1 week span from egg laying to free swimming. Missing 1 vacuuming shouldn't make a difference. Once the fry are free swimming, vacuum away! I would still do a bit of a water change though.:)

how many eggs do they lay aprox, sry for so many questions new to this

I don't know I've never counted them. :nilly:

50-200 depending on the size of the female and how healthy she is. You can expect about 5% not to hatch.
