Convict Breeding

yea u shood have no trouble breeding the convicts, there the horniest fish ever! good luck trieing to sell them though, there very common and breed so much so its kind of hard to find an lfs wanting to take some.
 
My convicts layed eggs today! I bought a flower pot to put in the tank when I noticed that my male convict was really pissed at my Anostomus and chasing it around the tank. When I lifted up one piece of slate I noticed a whole bunch of little yellow eggs being tend by the female. Yeah I know they're only convicts but this is my first time breeding cichlids so it's pretty exciting. :)
 
I would think about the clay pot idea for sure, my convicts always have way more eggs with those around. I think you could lower your temp a bit down from 80 degrees also.
 
Spring is in the air. My convicts eggs hatched this morning and my leopard geckos laid a pair of eggs. I put the flower pot in the tank yesterday and the female moved the babies into it. Looks like maybe 2 dozen babies. This is their first time breeding and I'm sure they will work out the kinks.
 
I've got quite a few cons in my 240 and every time the male spawns and the fry are free swimming for a few days I siphon the fry out. It's at that point the male kicks that female out of his territory and invites in another female and they spawn.... Then the cycle starts over again. I find this amusing because I've never hada male that was willing to spawn with two different females that were in the same tank....

I used to raise cons as feeders and had a pretty good system for doing it.... Because I'm lazy I'm going to link you to something I wrote on the C-F....
