I've gotten my pair to finally breed! Its a male pink convict and a female black convict. its in a 10 gallon for the moment but they will all be going into the 30 gallon soon. i have covered the filter sucktion with the fabric of a filter cartridge and i have gotten some hikari baby powder stuff. I need advice on what to do when the babies hatch since this is my first time breed an egg laying fish. Any help would be appriciated! Thanks!:D

I had convicts a few yrs ago and it seems thats all they did was breed. Kinda fun to watch but no one in my area wants the babies.

I bred them way to many times to count, ive noticed with alot of pairs that after 2 days the female has to come out because the male will kill her. Leave the babies with the papa as he will take care of them. Have a cave, the male will keep them in their and when its feeding time and lesiure time he will put them in his mouth and bring them out and when its time to go back he scoop them back up into his mouth and bring them back, small peices of brine shrimp, flake is perfect for the food too.

well its now teh 4th day any both of the parents are still doing fune with little or no agression. should i take out hte female?

Well before i knew this happened i had 4 pairs sucessfully take care of their babies then 3 pairs in a row i had the males kill the female so from then on i just automatically took the female out. Is youre female doing anything with the babies or is the father doing all the work?

if theres no agression then it should be okay, a 10 gallon might cause that though as the fry grow. If you move them into the 30 soon it soon be fine with no problems.

as soon as i get rid of the channel cats in the tank and the bluegill then i will be moving the fry in there. at what point should i take the parents out? o and the female its in the clay pot with the eggs as the male partols the area

Theres no need to take away the parents. Like after when i did my seperating of the female and male i always kept the male with the babies untill i decided to get rid of them, and once the fry became a bit bigger i readded the female and they would just mate again.

alright. so how old will the fry have to be untill i can move them into teh 30?
